Types of Members

When participating in a community, it is important to understand that several basic membership groups generally exist.

To find out what group your are a part of, visit your membership profile within each of your communities.

The most common basic membership groups are as follows:

Founder

The user that created the community is by default the community's Founder. The Founder has full control over all content and users.  There can be only one Founder. The Founder is the only member that can permanently delete a community. This status can be passed to another user.

Administrator

The Founder of a community can appoint any number of administrators. Administrators are selected from the existing base of members in a given community. Administrators have the same control over content and users as Founder except they cannot appoint other administrators or delete the community. They also cannot affect the "Basic Settings" of a community.

Content Moderator

The Founder and administrators of a community can appoint any number of content moderators. Moderators have the same control over content as the Founder and administrators. They do not have control over users nor do they have access to the community's administration area. The only special administrative tool that is made accessible is for content moderation (it appears as a new navigation tab on the left-hand side). This tool allows for the community content to be approved or disapproved, thus whether content is displayed or not.

Members

Users that join a community are by default "Members". Members typically can post content in most areas. They are generally permitted to edit and delete the content they have posted. However, the Founder and administrators of a community can establish special rights and restrictions as needed that affect what can be seen and done in the community.

Preview

Users that preview a community before they join are considered part of the "Preview" membership group. Previewing users typically are not permitted to post content but are permitted to view content. However, the Founder and administrators of a community can establish special rights and restrictions as needed that affect what can be seen and done in the community.

Note: The Founder and administrators of a community can create custom membership groups in addition to the pre-defined groups. Not all groups may be used to provide varying level of rights as they can be simply used to logically group similar members together (i.e. for broadcast messages).
