Setting Database Permissions

A set of permissions have been provided to govern the level of interaction, which membership groups and individual members have in a database. To modify permissions, edit a database and press the button labeled "Permissions". For an overview, including how to modify permissions for members and groups, see setting permissions.

When editing the permissions of a database, you will also have access to the records tab. Permissions of the records contained within the current database may be modified as well. The Databases Tool, and Databases tabs are grayed out, and cannot be accessed while lower level permissions.

Set the permission by clicking on the enabled or disabled icon, at the intersection of the permission and the group or member name. Click the icon to toggle between enabled and disabled. When finished, press the button labeled "Apply Changes".

Database Permissions

Included below is an overview of the permissions, which can be set for each database.

View Database

This permission enables the respective group or member, to access the database. If this permission is disabled, complete access to the database will be revoked.

Export Database

Upon viewing a database, if this permission is enabled, an "Export Records" link will be accessible which allows the respective group or member to save the database records on their local computer. For further information, see exporting a database.

Add Records

This permission enables the respective group or member, to create records and add them to the database.

Edit Database

This permission enables the respective group or member, to edit the properties of the database.  The most common properties include, name, database folder location, fields, and field sets. For further information, see managing a database.

Delete Database

This permission enables the respective group or member, to permanently remove the database including all of it's records.

Moderate Database

This permission enables the respective group or member, to modify the  stars of excellence which can be applied to community content. For further information, see content moderation.

Modify Database Permissions

This permission enables the respective group or member, to edit the permissions of the database.  Assigning this permission grants access to modify group and member permissions for the database, including it's records. Use caution when assigning this right.

View Hidden Records

This permission enables the respective group or member, to view records which have been selected to be hidden. Records can be hidden by selecting the hide record option when adding and updating records.
