Related Content

When posting multiple items of content that are related to each other, it is ideal to store them together in the same folder. However, when different types of content are related, they cannot share a folder and must therefore be related to each other more specifically. The following tools support the "Related Content" functionality:

Linking to Related Content

When creating or editing the content in the above types of tools, you will see a checkbox at the bottom of the form labeled "Link to Related Content". By selecting this box, a pop-up window will appear.

If you are adding related content to a folder or special area of the community, click the related icon or a gray toolbar button labeled "Related".

This window is similar to the Community Explorer interface. It allows you to quickly browse all content that can be related together.

The right-hand side is split horizontally into two frames. The upper frame will show the content from a selected folder, poll, calendar, mailing list or note board. To relate this content to another item, click on its name in the upper-right frame. You may also link to an entire folder by clicking "Link to Folder".

Repeat the process of navigating to find content and adding links until you are satisfied that all related items are listed in the yellow frame (lower-right).

Content in the related content frame can be deleted by clicking the icon. To re-order the content, click the icon next to a content item to move it up one position in the list. You can also add comments to content items by clicking on the icon.

When done, click the "Save" button found in the gray toolbar of the related content window. The window will close so you can return to the content form. Submit the form to commit all changes, including the selected items for related content.

Note: Discussion messages can also be linked to related content. However, other content cannot link to a specific discussion message (only entire groups can be selected in discussion).

Linking to New Related Content

At the bottom of every content entry, there is a "Related Content" box that allows you to link to a new item. Select the icon of the type of content you wish to post and you will be taken to an entry form. Fill out the required information and then post your content as usual. A related content link will then be automatically created from the new content you just posted to your previous content.

Editing Links to Related Content

If a content item already contains related content, select edit to update/change the item in question and find the checkbox for "Link to related content". Next to the checkbox will be a small "Edit" button. Press the Edit button to open the related content window.

If you would like to remove related content on a folder or special area of the community, press the related icon .  The related content window will open.

Content in the yellow "Related Content" frame (lower-right frame) can be deleted by clicking the icon. To re-order the content, click the icon next to a content item to move it up one position in the list.

When done, click the "Save" button found in the gray toolbar of the related content window. The window will close so you can return to the content form. Press the "Update" button on the content edit form to commit all changes including the changes made to related content.
